Lottery Info
Powerball was preceded by LottoAmerica which began in 1988. However, the game and name were changed to Powerball on April 19, 1992.
Powerball tickets are available for $1 per line on a ticket and drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday.
Players select five numbers from a set of 59 white balls and one number from a set of 39. The final number is the Powerball number and must be matched in order to win the grand prize. All non-jackpot winnings are fixed numbers, but the jackpot can vary widely.
The jackpot is never less than $20 million. If there is no jackpot winner, the amount is carried over until someone wins. Winners can take either a cash option or a graduated annuity paid in 30 instalments over 29 years. Odds of winning any prize in Powerball are 1 in 35.11.
