Giants Colts Spread As NFL Betting Heats Up
The last time the two brilliant Manning brothers faced one another in the NFL it was older brother Peyton who came away with the W as his Colts went in to New York and beat Eli's Giants by 5 in a 47 point thriller. Clearly the odds makers remember that game well as the Giants Colts spread for Sunday night's rematch has been set at 5.5 points. Both teams looked very vulnerable in Week 1 but one shouldn't read too much into those games, especially when handicapping the Colts. Indy are notoriously slow starters (hence we made a packet betting on the Texans who didn't surprise us by pounding the Colts) and usually don't get going until November. The Giants were fortunate to beat the Panthers, who really beat themselves by throwing an incredible three INTs in the Giants end zone.
Nevertheless, the fact remains that the Giants are 1-0 and the Colts are 0-1 and Indy certainly do not want to drop to 0-2 in a division that looks exceptionally tough this season as the Titans, Jaguars, and Texans all opened with a win leaving the Colts bottom of the AFC South, an incongruous spot for sure.
So the Colts will certainly improve as the season progresses but are they betting value this Sunday with a substantial -5.5 points to cover. Our NFL pick for this game is going to surprise casual NFL fans - we say bet on the little brother and his Giants to cover. The correct line for this game should be -3.5 points so we're getting value taking the road underdog.
In terms of the Over/Under this is more Manning Bowl hype with the media reminding fans throughout the week how brilliant both quarterbacks are. The one is certainly brilliant, but takes a while to warm up, and the other one still makes too many mistakes to be considered a top 5 QB in this league (Brees, Rivers, Brady, and Rodgers are all better off the top of my head). The total is too high at any number greater than 45 points. So at the current number take a chance on the Under here.
