Construction at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino
On March 12th, 2014, a permit was released for grading and stripping the land in order to begin construction at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino. It is expected that the actual construction, beginning with foundation work and piling will continue on schedule, beginning during April this year at the Calgary based racetrack.
Chandos Construction, the construction company that will be doing the work, was chosen by the United Horsemen of Alberta and Century Casinos in order to have the chance to keep on schedule. The construction company has shown in the past that it can build a casino both on schedule and while remaining within the projected budget. Century Casinos has first hand experience with this construction company since Chandros Construction Ltd has also been hired to build the Century Casino Edmonton in 2006,when the company kept to both the schedule and the projected budget
The Century Downs Racetrack and Casino
The racetrack itself will be overseen by Charles E. Coon and Sons, Inc. the company is known to be a specialist in track design, along with the planning, maintenance and the construction of the track.
The location of the Century Downs Racetrack and Casino is an excellent one, in that it is located a bit less than a mile north of the Calgary city limit, and less than five miles from the Calgary International Airport. The Racetrack and Casino is located near an exit off the Queen Elizabeth II Highway, a highway that carries the main traffic between Edmonton and Calgary. This busy highway and excellent location will be good for both punters, and for the Century Downs Racetrack and Casino. The area does not yet have a casino.
