Atlantic Lottery Announces New GeoSweep Game
The Atlantic Lottery Corporation announced plans to roll out a new game this winter, after a $2 million investment into a British company.
The new game, GeoSweep, is similar to placing bets on a roulette table, with the hope that some of the numbers bet on come up. However, instead of wagering on numbers on a table, players are essentially playing with squares on Google Map.
The New Brunswick Lotteries and Gaming Corporation was given permission by the provincial government to take part in the investment by the ALC in Roboreus Ltd,. the UK company that developed GeoSweep.
A spokeswoman for the ALC, Sarah McBeath, said that the $2 million investment was in the company, as well as the right to market GeoSweep in Canada.
Since 2004, the ALC has been offering online lottery games to Atlantic residents, including the right to play games such as iBingo.
However, the corporation is seeking ways to expand its portfolios, through introducing games such a GeoSweep, and is moving towards online casino gambling as well.
Last month, the corporation said that after careful assessment, the project seems to be an excellent investment.
Fun and Easy
Canadian players will be drawn to GeoSweep for a number of reasons, not least of all because it is fun and easy to play.
Players need to go online and choose a grid square - called a geo - that is based on Google Maps. Green squares are available, while red ones have already been taken. Squares are added to the player's shopping basket, which are then paid for when all of them have been selected.
Geos are usually booked for 100 days of draws, after which time they become available again. Buying a subscription means that players are automatically entered into the draw until their time is up.
