Family Wins $5 Million Lotto Max Prize
For five years, one Canadian family, comprising six siblings, their mother, a son, an uncle and a cousin, played the Lotto Max each week, trying their luck on quick pick number draws on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
Each week, family members would place $2 into a joint kitty and buy $20 worth of quick picks - for five years.
Finally, their persistence paid off and it was reported recently that the family syndicate won an impressive $5 million on the Lotto Max quick picks. This means that each one will receive $500 million.
However, the group has to wait until August 25th to claim their money, pending the findings of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming investigation. The OLGC found out that one of the siblings' daughter works at an OLG retail location, and they want to rule out an insider win - even though the daughter was not part of the syndicate. While the group understands the OLGC's need to launch an investigation, they still find it frustrating knowing that they have so much money waiting in the bank.
More Vacations
Florence Casselman, one of the siblings, is a retired secretary, currently living with a niece. The first thing she intends doing is buying a home of her own.
"I know I'll be taking more vacations, that's for sure," she said.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Smoker's Den at Lansdowne Place, Peterborough and Casselman was the one who discovered the win after she checked the numbers.
"We just couldn't believe it," she said. "It was unbelievable". She hurried to share the good news with all the members of the family before informing the OLG.
The OLG released their names this week after they completed the first part of their investigation, although the family has been trying to keep the good news to themselves.
