A dispute between two Canadian poker bodies has reached the country's Superior Court, and could have a detrimental affect on Canadian poker players.

The two groups, the Quebec Poker Tournament League (LTPQ) and the state run Loto Quebec have a partnership deal through the espacejeux.com online poker site.

However, recently, the Tournament League published a statement on its website over an alleged dispute between the two groups over missing sponsorship and service payments by Loto Quebec.

The lottery group didn't like having these accusations dragged out in public and promptly began legal action, citing damage to its reputation.

Loto Quebec is demanding $175,000 in damages from the Quebec Poker Tournament League and its WSOP bracelet winner owner, Andrew Boyer.

Boyer, a well-known Canadian poker pro, won his bracelet in the 2005 World Series of Poker in the $3,000 No Limit Hold 'em Event.

He is best known for his commentary on Reseaus Des Sports' coverage of the World Series of Poker between 2003 and 2008. Boyer was also instrumental in setting up the Canadian National Poker Tournament League

Loto Quebec Refuses to Comment

Loto Quebec refused to comment on the issue until the high court has reached a decision.

Meanwhile, LTPQ's website featured this follow up statement:

"Today we received a formal notice from Loto Quebec lawyers asking us to withdraw our statement, posted on the site on July 14th. Failing to do so would incur injunction proceedings, instituted to obligate us.  This would be a second lawsuit from Loto Quebec.  To avoid charges that could be significant and thus delay the return of the normal operations of the league, we decided, on the recommendation of our lawyers, to withdraw the statement in question, making sure that we will argue our position before the court in due court.  As we wrote yesterday, we are forced to suspend the activities of the league until further notice."
