Retired Teachers Win $41 Million Canadian Lottery
The winners of the $41.3 million Lotto 6/49 prize finally stepped forward to claim their money, after realizing their luck this week.
Carmen and Loretta Demizio are two retired teachers from Niagara Falls who have been playing the lottery for many years. The couple, both in their fifties, didn't check the numbers when the draw took place on Wednesday, and Carmen only took it into a store on Sunday to check whether the ticket had won or not.
He said that after the lottery ticket was scanned he "quietly tiptoed out of the store" and then went home and put the ticket on the fridge.
During dinner, the couple announced to their three children that they were millionaires forty one times over!
The couple have endless plans for the money, although they said that their biggest priority was taking care of their kids, Carmen's parents, their siblings, nieces and nephews.
As baseball fans, the couple said that they would be splurging out on attending games around North America.
"We're baseball fans so we're going to do a little bit of travelling there and go to the different stadiums and see what we've been watching for years," said Loretta.
Interestingly, they have been using the number 44 for over twenty years in their lottery numbers to honour right fielder New York Yankees player, Reggie Jackson.
Car Repairs
Part of the $41.3 million will also be used on car repairs! Carmen Demizio's MGB sports car has been sitting in the couple's garage for over two decades because its motor needs to be professionally overhauled.
"It's been in our garage unable to work for 24 years because we didn't have the money to put into it the way he wants to have it," noted Loretta. "He couldn't fix it himself so it's been sitting there and it's going to be fixed now!"
