WSOP Bracelet Number Five for Team Canada
Twenty six year old Matthew Jarvis, a Canadian poker pro who came very close to winning the Main Event last year, became the fifth player to bring home a WSOP bracelet in this year's poker event.
Jarvis won a bracelet for the $5,000 6 Handed No Limit Hold 'em event and won over $800,000 in event number 40.
Last year, he reached the Main Table of the WSOP Main Event, and came in eighth place, taking home over $1 million in prize money.
Jarvis almost never reached this year's World Series of Poker to take part in this tenth event, because his father was diagnosed with cancer. However, this father talked him into attending the tournament, leading him to win his first WSOP bracelet.
An amazing feeling
After winning the fifth WSOP bracelet for Canada, Jarvis said: "You dream of a moment like this from the first time you start playing poker. To win an event like this with as tough a field as this was, is an amazing feeling."
Jarvis spoke of his time since he played as one of the November Nine in the Final Table of the Main Event, only eight months ago.
"It's been really crazy," he said. "I did win two live tournaments. I also won a major tournament online. It's been a really good year for me, so far. I just hope it keeps going."
Jarvis also found time to praise the other Canadians who have attended this year's WSOP.
"There are so many great players coming out of Canada, especially in Vancouver," he said. "It's amazing to be part of that group that is doing so well here this year."
Matthew Jarvis quit his studies to become a full time poke player, and it seems that his gamble has paid off.
