Jonathan Duhamel, the 23 year old poker pro who won this year's World Series of Poker championship, has brought a lot of honour to Canada.

The player overcame a field of over 7,300 others to take home a prize worth millions and the coveted Final Table bracelet.

Poker Pro Canada, which claims to be the leading poker publication in the country, with over 50,000 copies in circulation, took it upon itself to congratulate Duhamel for his victory.

Duhamel is the first Canadian to win the WSOP Main Event and only two other Canadians have finished second in the 41 history of the competition.

These were Howard Goldfarb in 1995 and Tuan Lam in 2007.

Jonathan Duhamel entered the WSOP on July 5th and by July 15th had seen the back of thousands of other contestants.

He and another eight players, known as the November Nine, went back to the final table at the beginning of this month to fight it out for the title and a prize pool worth $8,944,310.

The magazine is read by thousands of poker fans who play the game both online and off.

The publication is distributed by its parent company, Poker Pro Media, which also distributes Poker Pro Europe, and Online Poker Pro.

Poker Pro Canada reaches all card rooms in the country, bringing players poker related news, professional profiles, tournament reports and more.

With Duhamel's fantastic WSOP win, it is expected that poker will take off even more in Canada, and players will flock to online poker sites to practice the game and hone their skills.
