Canadian Atlantic Lottery Accepts Oscars Bets
The Atlantic Lottery, the group overseen by the governments of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island, has become the first Canadian lottery to open up markets for the upcoming Academy Awards.
The lottery has launched odds on some of the most popular categories in the Oscar nominations, including Best Movie, Best Actor and Best Actress.
According to the senior brand manager of sports lotteries with Atlantic Lottery, James Reilly, the group is always on the lookout for products which its customers may be attracted to, and Oscar betting fits the bill to the tee.
"It's the heart of awards season right now," said Reilly. "It was an obvious choice to offer since millions of people tune in to the annual awards show. People are always casting their votes around the water cooler at work and now they have the option to make their predictions pay off."
Regulated Oscar Betting in Canada
The Canadian lotto firm made a point of telling its customers that the Atlantic Lottery Oscar betting lines are legal and regulated, despite being the first of their kind on a provincial government level in Canada.
The group said that Canada lottery Oscar bets are made in a safe and regulated way, and reminded its public that all proceeds go back to the provincial governments to help fund important social projects such as hospitals, schools and roads.
Ladbrokes Offers Oscar Odds
Betting on the Oscars is not a new phenomenon for many Canadian players, who regularly seek out these markets at popular online sports betting sites such as Ladbrokes.
A spokeswoman for Ladbrokes, Jessica Bridge, said that the UK sports betting giant has been offering Oscar odds for over a decade, and that more and more people from around the world enjoy celebrity wagering.
"It's very much a two horse race across most categories between Lincoln and Les Mis," said Bridge about the upcoming Academy Awards next month, "so there's not really a lot of money to be made by punters this year because it's quite obvious, as far as we're concern, who is going to win."
