Atlantic Lotto Lets 16 Employees Go
The Atlantic Lottery Corporation has announced the "difficult" decision of cutting sixteen jobs in its sales and marketing department. No details regarding the location of these employees were given.
In addition, a further fourteen other staff members were redeployed to alternative positions within the group.
Speaking for the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, Lindsay Shannon said that the workers were redeployed to "support the needs of the business."
According to Shannon, the reduction in the lottery corporation's staff numbers comes a result of a change in business structure.
"With an eye to the future, we are addressing the ever changing marketplace and challenges so that we can continue to return sustainable profits to the region to support healthcare, education and infrastructure to our communities," said Shannon.
"This means we have to change what we do and how we do it. We believe it is part of our responsibility to taxpayers to be as efficient and as low cost as possible."
Shannon said that the Atlantic Lottery Corporation took all the necessary steps to ensure that the process was as fair as possible, and that all those affected were provided with the necessary tools to help them with their transition into new jobs.
GeoSweep Investment Affects ALC
With the news that Atlantic Lottery lets employees go, analysts believe that there is no doubt that the Atlantic Lottery Corporation's decision to invest in the failed British internet game, GeoSweep undoubtedly impacted the group's numbers, although it refuses to release sales figures.
The ALC spent around $8.7 million in an equity stake in the game which failed to take off in England or Canada, obviously affecting Atlantic Lottery sales figures.
The idea of GeoSweep is an interesting one, with players needing to go online to pick a location on a map of Atlantic Canada. For $7.50, players can purchase a chance to win over 30 days, by picking the right Geo (location) from a choice of 2.3 million.
While 152 draws have been held since the game launched in Atlantic Canada in June, here has never been a top $250,000 jackpot winner.
