For Vancouver Island resident Judith Pennyfeather, 2010 turned out to be the luckiest year of her life after she won a whopping $7.6 million Canadian Lotto 6/49 jackpot in December from a ticket she bought over the internet.

Not only did Pennyfeather's enterprising actions ensure that she and her family can put any money worries they may have had behind them, but she has also entered the record books as the winner of Canada's biggest-ever online lottery jackpot.

Although Pennyfeather has proved too shy to speak directly to the Canadian media, Chris Fairclough, a spokesperson for B.C. Lottery Corporation - which owns and operates Lotto 6/49 - commented on the lucky lotto millionairesses' behalf.

'She was a little overwhelmed and didn't know what she was going to do with the money,' he said. 'She has known the whole time [since December 4] that she had won. She knew over Christmas, but made a decision to claim her check this year.'

A bashful Pennyfeather reportedly attended B.C. Lottery Corp's official check handover last week Tuesday. 'She was all smiles at the handover and said she was going to treat her family to high tea at the Empress Hotel,' added Fairclough.

Pennyfeather, who is said to have recently retired, said in a press release, 'It was a surprise to get the email [announcing her win] in my inbox. It was so easy to purchase my lottery ticket online, but still I never expected to win such a huge prize.'

Currently, B.C. Lottery Corp and the Atlantic provinces are the only Canadian jurisdictions that allow customers to purchase lottery tickets online. B.C. Lottery Corp has offered the service to lottery fans on its website PlayNow.com since 2004.
