McKeever Hoping to Continue Winning Streak with Daisy Devine
Trainer Andrew McKeever is hoping to extend his recent winning streak at Fair Grounds Racecourse in New Orleans with his three-year charge Daisy Devine in Saturday's $100,000 Silverbulletday Stakes.
McKeever was the talk of Fair Grounds last week, when seven of the 12 runners he sent out romped home first, in what is undoubtedly the biggest winning streak of his career, and he'll be looking to extend it come Saturday.
The 44-year-old trainer yielded more winners last week than the total number of winners he has delivered in his last seven seasons at Fair Grounds. In fact, his seven recent winners represent 6 percent of his total career wins.
His charge Daisy Divine was thrust under the racing spotlight on December 30 last year when she won an entry-level dirt-route allowance at Fair Grounds as a 40-1 longshot, and is reportedly in top form ahead of her outing.
Bought at auction for a paltry $5,500 by James Miller, Daisy Divine will be one of eight fillies scheduled to contest the Silverbulletday Stakes, a one mile 40 yard route for three-year-old fillies, and one of the day's six stakes races.
'The Sheets say I shouldn't run her, that she's going to bounce, but my instinct says yes,' said McKeever. 'I knew that she'd be tough in a $30,000 maiden when she came down here, but I didn't know that she'd be this good.'
The Illinois-bred filly - who is a daughter of Kafwain - will have jockey James Graham aboard on Saturday, who took her out for a breeze on Monday and admitted afterwards that he liked what he felt. He'll start from post 7.
