Vikings Jets Spread Is An NFL Betting Bonanza
Do you think Brett Favre is washed up? We certainly do and the sports book oddsmakers would tend to agree because the opening Vikings Jets spread for their Monday Night Football encounter makes Minnesota +4 point underdogs, and our feeling is that NFL line will only get bigger in favor of the home team.
Favre brings his useless 2 TD / 6 INT 60 QB rating to New York, his former team, and one where he didn't cover himself in glory choosing selfish personal records over the team whenever possible. Now the Jets have the real deal in Mark Sanchez who should dominate this match up. His record so far: 8 TD / 0 INT and a QB rating in excess of 105.
The Vikings have a 1-2 record thanks entirely to their running game. But Adrian Peterson will struggle against the Jets staunch run D and if the game comes down to an aerial battle Minnesota could well get blown out.
In the Vikings' favor is the fact that they are coming off a rest week so should be fresh and ready to perform at their best. Anyone who saw New York demolish the Bills after swatting aside the rest of the division in order will know that this shouldn't be enough.
We feel the correct spread should be closer to a full TD, say -6.5 points so this NFL line actually offers value and our free pick recommendation is to take the Jets to cover. Take that cash you were saving to send the daughter to college and put it down on a home team cover. Hey, college is overrated anyway.
The Over/Under for the game has opened at 36.5 points and quickly moved up to 38 points. There could be some value in the Over at any level below 40 points. The Over is 10-1 the last 11 Vikings games in Week 5 of an NFL season - a perfect example of a meaningless statistic that might motivate some people to take the Over. But the Over could still well be the bet, just not for that random reason.
