There are many lotteries in Canada, but arguably the one that is for the best cause is Alberta's annual Cash & Cars lottery - now called Cash & Cars & More lottery - which benefits various cancer charities and organizations.

And despite the fact that the lottery has undergone a slight name change, it is still as generous as it was when it was launched 11 years ago, as it offers lottery fans in Alberta the chance to win huge sums of cash, brand new cars and now even houses.

In these cash-strapped times, when many folks in Alberta are struggling to make ends meet and even risk losing their homes, for the first time Cash & Cars & More lottery is giving players the chance to win themselves one of two fully paid off homes.

One home is reportedly worth $953,000 and at 3,085 sq.-ft in size is a 3-bedroom Morrison Homes show home in Auburn Bay. Other top prizes include $500,000 in cash, his and hers Mercedes Benz's and a speedy 2011 Porsche Boxster.

In fact, according to officials at Cash & Cars & More lottery, this year's $4.7-million prize fund will go towards a total of 5,008 prizes, including the fully-furnished houses. But the hope of instant riches and prizes aside, this lottery does a lot of good.

All the proceeds generated from the Cash & Cars & More lottery will go towards cancer research, screening, treatment and prevention programs in Canada, more specifically to the Alberta Cancer Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society.

Said Canadian Cancer Society spokesperson, Tiffany Krausl, 'If you were diagnosed [with cancer] today, you'd have a 62 per cent chance of survival. But back in the 1930s, it was only about 25 per cent, so money makes a big difference for sure.'
