Mexican Dos Santos Recovering from World Cup Disappointment
There cannot be a family more disappointed than the Dos Santos of Mexico this week.
Only a few days ago, they were dreaming of seeing their two sons, Jonathan ('Jona') and the older Giovanni play in South Africa wearing Mexico's national colors.
But, in a bitter blow, both brothers were cut from the roster at the eleventh hour - first Giovanni and then Jona.
Jona saw himself released only one day before the final rosters were sent to the world soccer body, FIFA.
However, although he was initially shocked, Jona said that he has recovered.
"The day they gave me the news was one of the most complicated days of my life," he told a Spanish newspaper.
"I dreamt of being at the World Cup with my brother. Luck was not on our side but I've settled down with the support of my family."
Dos Santas plays for Barcelona and after he was axed from the Mexican World Cup team, he extended the contract with the Spanish team until 2012.
Speaking about the end of his World Cup dream, Dos Santos said: "It was a surprise for me and for all of Mexico's supporters. But those are things that happen in football. I can only keep my head high and try to come out ahead."
Mexico, which has been placed in Group A along with South Africa, Uruguay and France, will play host nation South Africa on June 11th, followed by France (June 17th) and Uruguay (June 22nd).
