Multiple Lottery Winner in Court Battle
When Seguro Ndabene heard that he had won the Super 7 lottery draw in January, he was over the moon.
However, this is not the first time that that Calgary kiosk owner has been told that he has won the lottery.
Ndabene won lottery jackpots four times in the past, albeit smaller amounts.
In 2004, he won his first million in the Western 6/49. Two years later Ndabene took home $100,000 in the Super Seven Extra, and last year the lucky man won twice - $1 million and $50,000 - both in the Western 6/49.
The lottery player's latest win of $17 million is in a league of its own and Ndabene was looking forward to getting his hands on the cash.
Unfortunately for him, the payouts won't be coming soon after meeting a two pronged hurdle along the way.
On the one side, the Western Canada Lottery Corp has began a probe into Ndabene's latest win as part of its policy to investigate multiple winners of top prizes.
On the other hand, Ndabene's brother in law has come forward to claim that the money is also partially his as the ticket was purchased as a group buy.
But Ndabene denies that he bought the ticket with his regular group of purchasers.
Further proof that his brother in law, Antonin Blanchette, may be trying to cash in on Ndabene's good fortune is the fact that no rubber stamp is found on the back of the winning lottery ticket - a habit developed by Blanchette for his own lottery ticket buys.
A court will decide whether Ndabene is the sole winner of the $17 million, pending the green light from the Western Canada Lottery Corp.
