IGC Gives BC Lottery Corp Thumbs Up
The non profit gambling group, the Interactive Gaming Council, has praised the BC government and BC Lottery Corp for having the courage to offer online to people in the province.
The Vancouver based group said that it would be happy to assist the government in establishing a regulatory model that will protect British Columbians when they take their gambling fun online.
The BC Lottery Corp announced plans to offer a full suite of casino games on its gaming site, and, in the process, increase the wagering limits from $120 to $10,000.
"Like the BC government, the IGC recognizes there are online gaming companies that operate out of poorly regulated jurisdictions," said the Chief Executive Officer of the Interactive Gaming Council, John Kennedy Fitzgerald.
"However," he reassured, "IGC members are licensed and strictly regulated in jurisdictions like the Isle of Man, Gibraltar and Alderney, which are recognized by the United Kingdom as having the highest regulatory standards in the world. Some of these jurisdictions have been involved with regulating online gaming for nearly a decade."
It is refreshing to hear support for BC Lottery Corp after its dramatic decision a few weeks ago, as the group has come up against a wall of opposition and criticism by anti-gambling groups since then.
These groups believe that raising the maximum wagering limit so dramatically could increase problem gambling.
