Study Finds Lottery High on List of Favorites
An Ipsos-Reid study on how young Canadian adults spend their leisure time has found that online gambling and playing the lottery are high on the list of favourite pastimes.
The internet is definitely number one among participants.
The survey found that young adults (those between the ages of 18 and 37) spend around 27 hours each and every week on the internet.
81% of internet users have a Facebook profile and 23% have registered with MySpace.
The internet is also used to pursue gaming and wagering options.
Online gambling has definitely picked up among young Canadians, who see the internet as the perfect place to enjoy quality casino gaming from the comfort of their own home.
30% of Canadians are interested in online gambling, and 20% play regularly for real money.
On the flip side, one fifth of all Canadians consider online gambling to be an illegal activity.
The lottery is also a favourite form of entertainment, with games such as 6/49 and Lotto Max particularly popular among young Canadians.
The survey found that this age group sent nearly 80 text messages a week and watched nearly 5 hours of TV on average on a weekday.
A Senior Research Manager with Ipsos Reid, Samantha McAra said: "For those in the lottery and gaming sector, the interest in playing games on the internet and the comfort with mobile and online communication are critical factors in determining and creating new and innovative product offerings."
