New Canadian Poker Network Set to Launch
Canadian poker will receive a major boost after it was announced over the weekend that HeadsUp Entertainment will be launching a brand new televised poker product.
The owners of the group said that a poker network, CanadianPokerPlayer.tv, will provide Canadian players with a video resource to enjoy quality poker games and programs.
The online TV network will feature the Canadian Poker Tour and its players in a number of televised segments and game histories.
The Canadian Poker Tour has become one of the country's most prestigious events, attracting top names in the industry such as Benjamin LaBlond.
LaBlond won this year's heads up event, taking home $100K and the honour of beating poker legends such as Phil Hellmuth on his way to victory.
"Players and fans alike will have an innovative and effective means to pursue their interest in the sport and we couldn't be more excited," said the President of HeadsUp Entertainment, Kelly B. Kellner.
The network will take a look at the Canadian poker tournament and interview top Canadian poker players.
The new network is set to launch in the fourth quarter of this year and HeadsUp Entertainment explained that this was the group's first step in expanding significantly into global markets.
HeadsUp Entertainment owns the Canadian Poker Tour, as well as the Canadian Poker Player Magazine.
Outlining the content of the network, Kellner said: "Some of the programming for the station will include over 20 hours of content produced in Canada over the past four years from the Canadian Open Poker Championships in 2006, 2008 and 2009 from Calgary. We are currently working with several of the online poker sites to include programming from around the world that they have produced as well. Some original programming will commence immediately and will be incorporating live feeds from events in Canada and around the world."
