The person who is believed to be the youngest lottery winner in Alberta, Canada was so overwhelmed with his new fortune that he could not continue his usual job for more than half a day, it was learned this week.

21 year old Don Grimard revealed that he was to become possibly the youngest retiree in his town of Lethbridge, where he used to work in the oil patch in Saskatchewan, after hitting the $17 million lottery.

"I went back to work," he admitted, after his win on August 5th, "but I was only able to work for half a day - it felt like a dream!"

Taking a break from his work for the day in early August, Grimard decided to treat himself to six $5 quick pick Lotto 6/49 tickets. The lottery tickets were purchased from an Outlook convenience store.

It was only after he was reminded by a colleague that a draw had taken place and that there had been one local winner, did Grimard decide to check his tickets.

"I hadn't checked my tickets yet, so we went to the store, and I started scanning them on the ticket checker," he said. "When I got to this ticket - I think it was the fifth one - I had to keep scanning it to make sure everything was right!"

When asked how he first reacted when he realized that he had become a multi millionaire, Grimard said: "I ran out of the store and started jumping up and down in the parking lot - I was hollering and screaming."

As the youngest winner in Alberta's lottery history, it was important for Grimards to get sound financial advice "so I will never have to worry about finances again."

"This is the largest win in Alberta by one person," confirmed a spokesperson for Western Canada Lottery Corp.
