Matchbook users are wondering what happened as the news has broken that Matchbook is leaving the Canadian market. The company had announced its intention to leave the market, with the leaving date becoming effective as of today, July 23rd 2014. It is suspected that the company has chosen to pull out of Canada because it is expected that there will be some regulatory issues that will be coming up soon.

The online betting company has stopped accepting deposits from Canadian punters, and players have until August 22nd to withdraw any funds that they still have with the Internet betting exchange. For those players who do not withdraw their funds within the allotted time, funds will be automatically returned to e-wallets or banks where possible. Matchbook is owned and operated by Triplebet Limited.

Matchbook Sends Email to Canadian Customers

While there is little additional information, it is known that an email was sent to Canadian customers to inform them of the decision that Matchbook has left the Canadian gambling market.

The email began by noting that the owners and operators of Matchbook, Triplebet Limited, had made a decision to cease operations in the Canadian gambling jurisdiction. The email noted that the company had done a "comprehensive review of all operations and have made the regrettable decision to cease operations in your jurisdiction effective as of 23 July 2014."

Matchbook Withdrawals and Return of Funds

The email further noted that from the time July 23rd, punters could not longer place wagers on the site and could no longer make use of any other gaming activities that are offered by Matchbook. The email continued to note that "all existing accounts shall be closed."

For those who had already placed bets before July 23rd, these bets will remain as they are, and any winnings would be settled as they would normally be settled, however it is clear that players need to withdraw their funds a month from the date of Matchbook's withdrawal from the Canadian market.

The email also explains that those players that have not provided Matchbook with up-to-date banking or e-wallet details cannot be guaranteed their funds. Those players that no longer reside in Canada are urged to register a new account with Matchbook. Any new accounts that are opened will be an entirely new process, in which players will need to provide new supporting documentation, just as they did when initially opening a Matchbook account in Canada.
