Eight ecstatic employees of United Rentals in Newfoundland and Labrador picked up their $30 million cheque last week after hitting the Lotto Max jackpot.

The United 8, as they have come to be known, formed a syndicate to purchase lottery tickets together each week - and today they're reaping the rewards of their decision.

Each of the eight - David Primmer, Paul Gasper, Gina Dyke, Kelly Tricco, Maggie Mooney, Calvin Campbell, Maria Terry and Jeff Belinger - will take home $3.75 million after the winnings are split up.

They won top prize in the July 4th Atlantic Lotto Max draw and became Newfoundland and Labrador's latest lottery millionaires in an instant.

Describing  Lottery Winning Moment

One of the eight, David Primmer, was tasked with purchasing the weekly lottery tickets for the group, but on the fateful week, he almost didn't get round to doing so.

According to Primmer, he went to St. Johns to make the purchase but his bank card refused to work.

However, taking his responsibility seriously, Primmer bought the tickets when he returned to Labrador City - among them the famous winning ticket.

After discovering they were winners, one of the syndicate, Kelly Tricco called her husband who was on the golf course.

"I was like, 'we won, we won'," recalls Trico.

"He was like, 'What did we win? I was like 'Well, it's definitely not a barbeque.", she said. "I couldn't be this excited."

The eight all turned up for work last week, despite it being a "crazy week" - and being instant millionaires almost four times over.
