Call for More Casinos in Niagara Falls
The Niagara Falls City Council has passed a gambling resolution that encourages further investment in the city's gaming sector.
The resolution that was unanimously passed, has asked both the Premier, Kathleen Wynne, and her Finance Minister, to allow the city to be the home of new gaming operations.
It also focused not only on opening new gaming locations in the city, but also requested that Premier Wynne give direction to the Ontario Lottery & Gaming Corporation (OLG) that they should also add the two current Niagara Falls casino resorts into its current modernisation programme.
Call to Include Modernisation for Casinos in Niagara Falls
While the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation is undergoing a casino modernisation process at this time, the plan that did not include either of the two Niagara Falls casinos, Casino Niagara, and Fallsview Casino.
The OLGs proposal that was presented in March 2012, has the corporation assisting selected Ontario casinos to improve their daily operations by finding better qualified service providers, improve the focus on customers, and a general renewal of the corporation's role in the oversight and management of Ontario lottery and gaming.
Jim Diodati, the Mayor of Niagara Falls, said: "Niagara Falls is the premier gaming destination in Canada, and a global brand that attracts millions of international tourists. It is the logical place in Ontario to expand the gaming sector and attract more tourism, jobs, investment, and spending."
Mayor Diodati further explained that without modernisation, the casinos in Niagara Falls would suffer. He said: "The gaming industry is highly competitive. Without modernisation at Fallsview Casino and Casino Niagara, we're at risk of losing revenue to other operations in the province and in New York State."
Niagara Falls City Council Resolution 35
Mayor Diodati has explained that the Niagara Falls City Council is supportive of gaming in the city, and has always encouraged the expansion and strengthening of the casino gaming industry in Niagara Falls.
The Niagara City Council let Premier Wynne know the importance of its casino gaming industry, noting: "Niagara should be the Province's premier resort casino destination, with a goal of permitting additional resort casinos to be established in Niagara Falls."
The City Council Resolution 25 laid out its recommendations of the best way to make sure that the two Niagara Falls casinos maintain their significant place in the Ontario casino industry.
The recommendation notes "?through the introduction of product diversification, new investment, such as a new 7,000 seat theatre, and distinct and relevant branding differentiating Niagara's two resort casinos."
