Steelers vs Redskins In NFL Pre-Season Matchup
NFL fans who are eagerly awaiting the start of the 2013-14 NFL Regular Season will have to make do with a series of pre-season showdowns, including tonight's Monday Night Football pre-season Week 2 matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Washington Redskins at Fedex Field in Maryland.
While millions of NFL fans from across America, Canada and beyond will be tuned in to watch this evening's game, both teams will have their work cut out for them as each has been impacted by injury. For instance, one of the Redskins' most valued players, quarterback Robert Griffin III, will be sitting this one out.
Redskins QB Robert Griffin III Still Recovering
Washington fans grimaced back in January this year, when they heard the news that Griffin III had torn one of his ACLs, a potentially season and even career-ending injury. However, the talented 23-year-old is reportedly healing up very well and is expected to take to the field earlier rather than later this season.
But until then, he'll have to be content with keeping the bench warm, and watch as Kirk Cousins takes up the most important position on the field tonight, and hopefully continues to show off his own talents and skills. And he'll need to, if he and his team intend to make a decent dent in the titanium-strong defense of the Steelers.
It won't be lost on Steelers' fans or Cousins that he needs to deliver his A-game tonight, and even more importantly, keep himself from getting injured, considering that his fellow replacement quarterbacks - Pat White and Rex Grossman - have failed to impress so far this year. Last time out, both threw multiple interceptions, a few of which were head-scratchingly odd.
QB Ben Roethlisberger Likely to Start for Steelers
Meanwhile, who will be the Steelers starting quarterback tonight has yet to be confirmed, but Ben Roethlisberger is the most likely candidate. Failing that, Bruce Gradkowski could be the next most likely player.
Either way, the real problem with Pittsburgh's offensive lineup is that two of the team's strongest running backs - Le'Veon Bell and Isaac Redman - are on the injured list. That leaves replacement RB Jonathan Dwyer to take up the slack, which will be no easy task if the Redskins fire on all cylinders in front of their home crowd.
From an NFL betting perspective, most land and online sportsbooks - including
Bodog - have posted the Washington Redskins as the -2.5 point favorites over
their visitors. For my NFL betting buck, however, I see the Pittsburgh Steelers
triumphing away this evening. Here are the latest Steelers vs Redskins betting
