Record Canadian Lottery Win for Alberta Player
A man from Alberta has finally come forward to claim his share of Canada's biggest Lotto 6/49 jackpot draw which took place on April 13th.
Chad Klepaychuk won $15.8 million - a fourth of the $64.4 million jackpot - and was the only winner from Alberta. The other three winners all hailed from British Columbia.
The Canadian Lottery Alberta winner said that it had taken him this long to come forward and claim his prize as he needed time to get used to the fact that he was now a multi millionaire.
He knew the day after the draw that he was a winner and he said that it was difficult keeping the win a secret from friends and family.
"I needed to wrap my head around what it meant," he said.
"You always dream about winning but nobody thinks it's going to happen," he said. "I still think that!"
Lotto 6/49 Winner Thanks Wife
Collecting his prize this week, Klepchayuk said that he had his wife to thank for the big lottery win. He had intended on buying a ticket for the big Lotto 6/49 draw on April 13th and then changed his mind while driving to his brother's home only hours before the draw.
His wife urged him to make a stop at the convenience store and he ended up purchasing five quick picks. One of them turned out to be Klepchayuk's ticket into the world of multi millionaires.
Asked what he plans to do with his massive win, Klepchayuk said he wasn't quite sure, but he has already quit his job as a refrigeration and air conditioning technician apprentice.
"Maybe a new truck," he mused. "I don't know, possibly lots of warm trips and a condo by the ocean."
$17m Lotto 6/49 Draw This Weekend
The next Lotto 6/49 draw takes place this weekend, Saturday May 11th, with an estimated $17 million in the draw.
The last draw was last Wednesday, with the winning numbers being 12, 21, 23, 24, 38, 46 and bonus number 36.
Each play costs just $2 and the jackpot will continue to grow until it is won. Tickets are sold up to 10 draws in advance with draws held ever Wednesday and Saturday.
Tickets for Saturday's draw can be purchased until 9 pm. Eastern Time on the day of the draw.
