New MGM Website Promotes Toronto Casino
Giant entertainment company, MGM Resorts has joined with Toronto based developer Cadillac Fairview to launch a slick new website promoting the idea for a new casino resort at Exhibition Place in the city.
According to the website, the gambling and entertainment facility would showcase "the soul of Toronto", and would incorporate convention facilities, a luxury hotel, shopping, restaurants and nightlife.
The website also stresses that gambling will only make up less than 10% of the resort, addressing fears expressed by Toronto residents who envision one giant casino complex where only gambling is offered.
The website was also launched to counter the successful campaign currently being run in the local media and social media by the grassroots No Casino Toronto.
New Toronto Casino Proposal
In their message to Toronto residents, Cadillac Fairview and MGM Resorts say: "Our hope is that Torontonians see the exciting possibilities that exist if we revitalize Exhibition Place and optimize its true potential as a year round and entertainment destination."
MGM said that up to 9,000 jobs could be generated by the new resort, earning Toronto residents hundreds of millions in earnings per year.
The group estimated that non-executive casino employees had the potential to earn over $60K per year, taking into account benefits and tips as well.
Over 1 million out of towners would visit the resort each year, spending between $500 million and $1 billion on non-gaming activities.
Casino Opposition Grows
MGM Resorts felt that it needed to take its campaign in favor of a new casino one notch up, after opposition groups have been gaining momentum in the media arena, and thus the MGM website promotes the Toronto casino.
No Casino Toronto claims that the group "literally owns the conversation around Toronto casinos on social media."
The group grew from a Facebook page launched by three concerned women to one of the most organized and anti-Toronto casino movements today.
Over 1,000 new 'likes' are recorded at the No Casino Toronto webpage every week.
MGM Resort's new website was launched together with an official Facebook page, and tab for visitors to "share your thoughts with your local city councillor."
MGM Resorts has said that between $2 billion and $4 billion would be invested in the casino resort.
"Through the design, services and spectacles offered, guests at the integrated resort will experience the soul of Toronto," said MGM.
