Ice hockey fans from Alberta to Albuquerque have been watching the Chicago Blackhawks like eagles this season to see when they will falter, as the only team with an unbeaten record so far this season. So with 18 wins in the bag, the Blackhawks will attempt number 19 tonight against the visiting Edmonton Oilers.

Chicago Blackhawks Seeking 19th Straight Win

The sport of ice hockey is so fast and dynamic, that no matter how good a team is, it usually eventually succumbs to superior rivals at some point. However, in the case of the NHL Chicago Blackhawks, that "eventually" has yet to raise its head, as the team from Illinois remains unbeaten in all of its 18 games played this season.

While not all of Chicago's wins can be described as particularly "pretty" or even overwhelmingly convincing, in hockey as in most sports, a win is a win and that is all that counts. For the Blackhawks, their incredible unbeaten streak just goes to highlight an NHL franchise that is working like a cohesive well-oiled machine.

How else can you explain how no team up until now has managed to get one up on the Blackhawks, no matter how hard they try? Even luck has no bearing on Chicago's winning streak, as game after game the team has shown off huge skills and talent, as well as the kind of temperament that could see them win the Stanley Cup.

Interestingly, it has been 11 months since the Chicago Blackhawks experienced a regulation loss, and no doubt they will be eager not experience one this evening (Monday, February 25) when they host the Edmonton Oilers, a team that should pose them no threat on paper, but one they have succumbed to in their last three meetings.

Edmonton Oilers v Chicago Blackhawks

It will not be lost on NHL betting fans how exciting tonight's Oilers v Blackhawks matchup should, considering the former has beaten the latter in their last three meetings, and the latter has won all of their games so far this NHL season. But win or lose tonight, the Blackhawks will break a record of some kind.

If they win, they will continue to extend their record of racking up the best start to an NHL season in the history of the league. If they lose, however, they will have earned themselves the unenviable record of having lost four times in a row to the same Oilers, which would mark their longest regulation slide in 26 years.

So, with both teams equally motivated to beat the other, tonight's game should be a rough and tumble no holds barred affair. Of course, the Blackhawks will have the home advantage this evening, along with the knowledge that so far this season they have chalked up 5 wins, 1 OT win and 0 losses playing at home.

Last time out, the Oilers beat the Phoenix 3-2, thanks in part to another great performance by Jordan Eberle, who could prove to be a thorn in Chicago's side this evening.
