NFL Eagles at Saints MNF Preview
With still no NHL games on the cards any time soon, Canadian sports betting fans will have to make do with NFL and CFL matchups. In terms of the NFL, tonight's Week 9 Monday Night Football matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New Orleans Saints should be an entertaining one.
Going into this evening's game, which kicks off at 8:30pm ET at Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, the home team have been laid as the -3 point favorites over their visitors, which some betting fans may find pretty surprising, considering the Eagles seem to be the better team on paper.
Philadelphia Eagles Without RB Darren Sproles
But then the Philadelphia Eagles will be without the much-needed services of their top-rated RB Darren Sproles, who will not only sit out of this MNF matchup as a result of recently breaking one of his hands, but all other games for the Eagles for at least the next six weeks while his hand heals.
Sproles' injury is an enormous big blow for Philadelphia considering that last season he set an NFL record of almost 2,700 total yards, and this season is second in the Eagles with 39 receptions for 323 yards and four TDs. He has played an extremely crucial role in the team's return game and will be missed.
As such, there is no doubt that the Saints will thank their lucky stars that they won't have Sproles to contend with this evening. While a few Eagles' fans will be praying that QB Michael Vick will shine this evening, the chances are pretty excellent that he won't, judging by his shocking form this season.
Even though defensively New Orleans are allowing on average more than 30 points per game this season, the majority of Eagles' fans have accepted that Vick is not doing the team any favors and should thus be replaced with fellow QB Nick Foles, who is capable of helping to turn the team's fortunes around.
New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees Unstoppable
There is even speculation that if Vick doesn't shine this evening, he may be put on the first bus back to dog town. And it won't help the Eagles' cause any the fact Vick's counterpart Drew Brees blitzed Philadelphia for a whopping 311 yards and three TDs back in 2009, and is on track for one more huge season.
I predict that the Saints will prevent the Eagles from soaring this evening, and in fact notch up a much-needed win to put them on the winning track they need to be on if they have any hope of making it to the playoffs. Add to that the Saints' almost unstoppable offense, and you can understand their favorite status.
