2012 CFL Season Prepares to Kick Off
The 2012 Canadian Football League (CFL) season kicks off on Friday, June 29, which means football betting fans are champing at the bit for what will hopefully be an exhilarating and nail-biting season ahead.
With only eight teams, the CFL is considerably smaller than the NFL down south, but no less exciting as these teams face off in a season that will run from June 29 until the final, The Grey Cup, on Sunday, November 25.
BC Lions are the CFL Betting Favorites
Last year the BC Lions won the coveted Grey Cup, beating the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 34-23, which is why most CFL oddsmakers have laid the BC Lions as the betting favorites to win the Cup again this season.
That and the fact the BC Lions were bolstered even more in the offseason with the acquisition of top defensive backs Byron Parker and Lin-J Shell. Add to that, uber talented 28-year-old quarterback Travis Lulay will start again for the defending champs this year, after being named CFL's Most Outstanding Player last season.
But despite the BC Lions' solid form coming into the new season, there are seven other CFL teams that will do everything in their power to stifle their mighty roar. And if the CFL oddsmakers are anything to go by, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats could be a particularly big threat, as a team that routinely makes it into the playoffs.
Tiger-Cats Traded for QB Henry Burris
During the offseason, the Tiger-Cats made a trade for quarterback Henry Burris, who in 2010 was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Player, and in 2008 was named the Grey Cup MVP. As such, we expect a lot of good things Burris and co this season.
