Hockey Star Luongo Signs Up with Canadian Gambling Site PlayNow
Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo has decided to take his competitive spirit to a different playing field. The star ice hockey player has signed a deal with PlayNow.com, the official online gambling site of the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC).
This means that anybody who has ever dreamed of meeting Luongo face to face on the ice, may have to readjust that dream and meet him instead across a virtual green felt table instead.
Anybody who has an account with PlayNow.com, a leading Canadian gambling site stands a pretty good chance of playing against Luongo, aka Bobby Lu, who is reportedly a keen poker player himself.
The British Columbia Lottery Corporation said in a press release that online players now have the opportunity of playing poker against the star goalkeeper.
There will also be additional opportunities to meet Luongo in person as he will be acting as the face of PlayNow.com at upcoming charity tournaments and other events.
"He has an account, so he can play online whenever he wants, but we will also have additional opportunities," said a spokesperson for the BCLC, Chris Fairclough.
"He's going to have a charity tournament, like a physical one, where you will be able to win a chance to go play with him."
PlayNow Luongo Gambling Partnership a Good Fit
According to the lottery corporation, the partnership between PlayNow.com and Bobby Lu "makes sense", considering what a big name the star is in Canadian sports circles, and love of and skills in the game of poker.
"He is renowned for being a poker player," said the spokesperson. "He is good. Everyone knows about Roberto Luongo's poker playing abilities."
Luongo said in a press release that this was an exciting opportunity for him.
"I've always enjoyed playing poker and my competitive side is looking forward to practicing my poker skills," he said.
The Vice President of eGaming for PlayNow.com, Rhonda Garvey said this was an exciting announcement for the site's players.
"This partnership gives our players access to great prizes like the chance to test their poker skills against the hockey all-star," she said.
"Players can look forward to many unique promotional opportunities through this partnership during the upcoming hockey season," noted Garvey.
The ice hockey star added in the press release: "The friendly competition of a poker game is one of my favourite hobbies. It's always been fun to play online and I look forward to testing my poker skills on PlayNow.com."
