Ontario Lottery And Gaming Corporation Helping To Keep Canada Clean
While winning a lottery jackpot is practically a dream of most Canadians and the focus of weekly draws is on the biggest winners, most people overlook the good causes the Canadian lottery supports using funds generated from lottery ticket sales.
This week, we were reminded of some of the good that comes out of organisations such as the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).
As part of the Ontario Lottery and Gambling Corporation cleanup, for the third year running its team of Bet on Green volunteers will be hitting the shoreline along with many others to take part in the 2011 Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup.
This worthy environmental activity takes place on a yearly basis and focuses on cleaning up the shorelines of Canada's important waterways, including ponds, lakes, streams and rivers.
In addition, this is the first year that the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation will act as a provisional sponsor for the Vancouver Aquarium and WWF initiative.
The Senior Manager for the OLG Bet on Green program, Alison Gibbins said that hundreds of OLG employees would be volunteering in their spare time order to assist in the big clean up.
Ontario Lottery Corporation Happy To Get Involved
"It's a true reflection of our employees and their dedication to the environment and their communities," she said. "All of our 22 sites across the province are getting involved this year."
Manager of the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, Jill Dwyer, said that this event was a good opportunity for Canadians to get involved in keeping their waters clean and healthy for the communities and wildlife that depend on them.
"We're proud to partner with OLG," she said, "who always show an outstanding commitment to this initiative. We look forward to seeing the impacts of their contribution on our shorelines again this year."
The Bet on Green initiative was created in 2007 in bid to lessen the environmental impact of OLG's operations and generally spread awareness about the environment to employees and customers. Some of the steps taken since the creation of the program have been to shrink the size of lottery tickets to save paper and to encourage employees to join the volunteer program.
The OLG wants to ensure that it is perceived as a group that, first and foremost, cares about the communities it serves and continues to work towards impacting the lives of those living in the region in positive way.
