888 Poker Announces New Live Canadian Tournament
Leading Gibraltar-based online poker room 888 Poker has promised Canadian poker players that in April next year they'll have the chance to pitch their skills against each other in a land poker tournament with a large prize pool.
888 Poker Brings Super Stack Tourney to Canada
888 Poker confirmed that it will host its popular Super Stack
tournament - which are all too familiar to professional poker players in the
United Kingdom and Australia - at the Playground Poker Club in Kahnawake, Quebec
on the 7th and the 8th of April 2012.
The Playground Poker Club, which was founded in 2010, is an exclusive,
live-action poker club located just outside of Montreal.
The renowned online poker room said that Canadian poker fans will need to pay a buy-in of CAD 185 to enter the two-day live Canadian poker tournament, which will entitle them to a starting chip stack of 20K. Blinds will increase in 30 minute intervals.
Although it is too soon to tell, it is expected that the prize pool for the Super Stack tournament will be in excess of $20,000.
In order to qualify for the Super Stack, players can enter regular feeder tournaments at 888 Poker, as well as a weekly Sunday qualifier with a $38 + $3 buy in fee. Each week, at least one seat is guaranteed.
The 888 brand incorporates quality online poker, as well as casino gaming, bingo and other gambling action. The online poker room has over 5 million registered users.
Pro Poker Shifts From US to Canada
Since the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) decided to take action against online poker sites operating within the country's borders, the focus of North American poker has shifted to Canada.
Many online poker companies are taking advantage of the fact that professional US poker players have decided to relocate to Canada in a bid to stay as close as possible to 'home', and to enjoy the liberal poker market available in their adopted country.
As a result, we are seeing a lot of movement towards the creation of more poker opportunities for local poker players, both on the online and live circuits.
Which is why many online poker sites are targeting ex-US and Canadian players using live tournaments, sponsorships and other incentives. Increasingly online poker rooms are hosting live tournaments, where online players can test their poker prowess in the real world.
