Ontario has proven to be quite the lucky province once more, after a winning lottery ticket originated from Toronto this weekend.

The $21.4 million jackpot from Friday's Lotto Max draw was hit, according to Ontario Lottery and Gambling, and the winning ticket bought in Toronto.

The group did not give further details about the neighbourhood where the ticket was purchased, nor the name of the retail store.

This is the fourteenth time, since Lotto Max launched in September 2009, that a winning ticket has been bought in Ontario.  Since the launch, Ontario lottery fans have won over $760 million, including 118 Maxmillions wins.

But that wasn't the only local win in Friday's draw.  A $1 million Lotto Max Encore ticket was bought in Barrie.

Players who want to check if they are lucky winners can call the OLG Win Line (1-866-891-8946 tollfree) to find out.  Alternatively, they can use the self scanners or ticket terminals at OLG retailers to check.

There is also the option to text LOTTO to 25852 in order to receive the winning numbers and other alerts right to the one's mobile phone.

Ontario's Winning Streak

The last winning Lotto Max ticket also originated in Ontario, after a Richmond Hill woman, Vivian Leung won $22.5 million on June 23rd.

Leung, who makes a living selling hair products in a store, had trouble believing her good fortune once she was told about her win.

"It was hard to keep calm," she said. "It's not real to me yet, I didn't really believe it.  So I went back to work."

Leung has plans to move her 84 year old father to Toronto from Edmonton and buy him a home so that she can take care of him nearer to her.
