If you can shelve patriotism for a moment, which rarely makes anyone wealthy in sports betting, then here is a profitable NBA betting strategy to consider: look at the spread for the next Raptors game and bet on the opposition.

The Toronto Raptors have been bad all season posting a 27-35 ATS record (they're a woeful 17-46 SU, but that doesn't help basketball bettors as much). But that number worsens considerably if you look at their performance as a favorite: they're only 5-10 ATS. It looks similarly bleak if you look at recent efforts: the team is 6-12 ATS in their last 18 starts.

Now if you can cash in 2 out of every 3 NBA bets you are going to become very successful at sports betting. A 66% strike rate is virtually unheard of, with anything over 54% putting a sports gambler in profit.

Last night the Raptors hosted the Jazz, a team that has been poison for anyone silly enough to bet on them since they traded away their best player. They came into the game with a 2-9 ATS record and yet the Raptors were favored to cover by 2 points. The sharp play was to fade Toronto, who lost 94-96 thanks to a buzzer-beater.

The Raptors still have 9 games left before the awful season comes to a merciful end. That should be at least 6 chances to make serious coin, and perhaps fatten one's bankroll even more substantially. But if they play to form they'll go 3-6 ATS, at best and betting against them should be considered for their remaining home games against the Pacers, Bobcats, and Wizards - all very weak teams who could well cover if the Raptors are installed as favorites.
