When betting on an NBA team you are backing them to "cover the spread", "a predetermined margin of points" that your chosen team will win by (or of course lose by if you choose to back the underdog. For example, if the lines shows a negative number next to Boston (-3) in a game against Denver, your bet will only win if Boston beat Denver by 4 or more points. If you chose to back Denver (+3), you win your wager if Denver does not lose by more than two points. The result could be a tie. Generally, you have to stake $11 to win $10, unless the book quotes different odds. Some sportsbooks will also offer a special half time point spread NBA TotalsTotal bets are very simple. The sportsbooks quotes a number which their linesmakers believe will be the total amount of points scored. You back the total to either go "Over" or "Under" this number. |
