When the Super Bowl betting line was initially posted last week there was some surprise that the Green Bay Packers were installed as ante-post favorites with the spread posted at -2 points in their favor. But as Super Bowl XLV betting has warmed up the online sports books are reporting that the bulk of the action is on Green Bay, and the Steelers are now +3 point underdogs.

The Packers are the momentum team in the NFL, with a series of do-or-die wins that stretches back to their final two regular season games. They had to beat the Giants and the Bears just to qualify for the postseason, and after successfully navigating their way past both opponents they began an unlikely playoffs run that has culminated in a trip to Arlington, Texas this Sunday.

Green Bay, led by Aaron Rodgers, have brushed aside the Eagles, Falcons, and Bears all on the road. Their rich vein of form has to be weighed against a team that has been there before and always seems to find a way to win, usually with the help of officials. Defying the Pittsburgh Steelers is not easy, and sometimes against the wishes of the league, just ask the Dolphins this season or the Seahawks in a past Super Bowl.

The reality is that Big Ben gets away with everything short of murder: those fumbles into the endzone are a lot like those pesky sexual assault charges - figments of the imagination. And we won't even think about censuring the Steelers' defense, which has been known to hit a tad "unfairly", to put it charitably.

Only a brave man would lay points against Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl, and while we respect the Cinderella run of the Packers it is time to dwell in the real world and step out of fairy tale land. Take the Steelers + the points on Sunday and root for the bad guys in black. Their victory will leave a sour taste but we find that a whole pile of bookie's money tends to make that taste disappear real fast.
