Packers Redskins Spread Makes Washington Underdogs
Going into Sunday's NFL game between the Green Bay Packers and the Washington Redskins, it won't be lost on NFL betting fans that Green Bay has won the last four showdowns between these two teams from 2001 to 2007. So perhaps it's no surprise that the Packers Redskins spread (+2.5, O/U 44) favors the visiting Packers at Fedex Field.
That and the fact that Washington boasts the worst pass defense in the NFC Division. And herein may lie the Packers greatest weapon in its quarterback Aaron Rodgers who, in the team's last outing against the Detroit Lions, saw him complete 12 out of 17 passes for a total 181 yards and 3 first-half touchdowns. Sure, while not the greatest stats around, if his throwing improves against the Redskins, there is little doubt Washington will be up against it.
Plus it won't help Washington's cause any that they are still without their trusty running back Clinton Portis, who was put on the injured reserve list at the end of last year.
Fully aware of this, Rodgers is expected to pick up the pace on Sunday and help meet the Packers Redskins line. It has to be said though that despite beating the (still winless) Detroit Lions 28-26 last week at home, the Packers' offense failed to score in the second half, a state of affairs the quarterback was vocally unhappy about, and aims to rectify this weekend.
He and the rest of the Packers offense will no doubt look to take advantage of Washington's lack-luster defense that has allowed through a torrential 305.0 passing yards per game and only one sack in three of four games. those stats, incidentally, are the second-worst in the League.
Statistically, Green Bay are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games overall, 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 games on grass and their Over is 10-1 in their last 11 games during Week 5. Washington are 5-1-3 ATS in their last 9 games on grass, 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games in Week 5 and their Under is 7-1-1 in their last 9 games played in October.
