Canadians had been waiting for years to finally get some legal online gambling in their country, and this time finally arrived on Thursday when PlayNow.com was launched.

This delight, however, was short lived, after the site could not cope with the amount of visitors and crashed within a few hours of being launched.

PlayNow.com is the British Columbia Lottery Corporation's new online casino website and did not survive the volume of traffic it experienced during its first few hours of going live.

Canadian online casino players had been waiting for years for a safe and legal place to play and now the gamblers will have to wait that bit longer until the site's glitches have all been smoothed out.

The site's capacity was reached just a few short hours after its launch and the PlayNow.com's officials decided to shut down the site until additional hardware and servers could be added.

Players who are waiting eagerly for the site to be re launched will receive bonuses for signing up.

Until the launch of this safe and regulated Canadian online casino, Canadian gamblers were forced to play at unregulated sites.

One excited online player, Shelley Simon said: "I cannot wait until the site is up and running again because I have been waiting a long time to play casino games on my computer. It is nice to know there is a place where rules are going to be followed and my money is safe."

There has been some controversy surrounding the launch of the online casino site. Many people are pointing to the crash of the site as an indication of how addictive the gambling will become, with so many people rushing to the site at once.

Officials of the site have assured the public that they have all the software necessary to fight underage and problem gambling at the casino.
