Betting fever has gripped Canada as the Winter Olympics kicked off over the weekend.

The state of the weather has definitely left officials feeling a bit worried, with not enough cold to guarantee that some events will even happen. Some events have been postponed until the weather, hopefully, sorts itself out, while training runs have also been cancelled for others.

Winter sports fans will be in for a delight with the wide number of teams playing in and around Vancouver, including hockey, alpine events and skating.

Canada's women hockey team is doing great and its only competition seems to be the US team. Both dominate the world stage in women's hockey and either one of them has won the World Championships each and every year since 1990.

The Alpine events are dominated by the Europeans, although the United States is also poised to grab some medals in this category.

China is making waves this Olympics in the more artistic sports such as figure skating. The country won its first ever  medal in this sport on Monday night, and China is hoping that it will do well in curling too.

Odds posted at some sports betting sites are as follows:

Men's Ice Hockey Outright - Canada 19/20; Russia 9/4; Sweden 5/1

Figure Skating - Y.Kim 1/2; J Rochette 5/1; M Asada 6/1

Ice Dancing - Virtue T/Moir S - 7/4; Davis M/White C 5/2

Short Track Womens 1500 m - Y Zhou 6/5; E Lee 3/2; L Sun 13/2
