In my social circle I am known as the 'online gambling guru' and I have to admit that my vanity allows me the luxury of a smile every time I am addressed as such. It's not as if I'm the only person amongst my friends who gambles online, it's just that I've been doing it for the longest (9 years) and really enjoy talking about it - from my winning streaks to my losing streaks and everything in between.
It's probably for this reason that my friends - those interested in online gambling - come to me first for advice. And over the years I have been happy to answer questions like: Are online casinos safe? (yes, very); Do online casino games boast big payouts? (yes, they do); Do online casinos boast games with progressive jackpots? (yes, many of which have paid out tens of millions of dollars).
You get the idea. But the two questions I get asked often are: Is playing slots at online casinos any different from playing slots at land casinos? and: How to win at slots at Canadian online casinos? So I have decided to dedicate the rest of this blog to answering these two questions. Bear in mind that as a Canadian (hence this website and the title of this blog) I would recommend playing only at online casinos that accept Canadian dollars as a currency.
The short answer to question one is 'no.' The software that runs land and online slot games these days is pretty much identical. Gone are the mechanical slots so common just a few years ago. Now most slot games are 'electronic' or software-based. This means that they use random number generator software containing complex algorithms to ensure that each and every spin of the reels - in both land and online casinos - is 100 percent random, and thus fair for both players and the respective casinos.
The short answer to question two is that there is no guaranteed way to win at slots or it would be called 'online winning' as opposed to 'online gambling.' However, there are many ways to increase your chances of winning at online slots. The first is to play an online slot game using a coin or credit size you can afford and feel most comfortable with. Then you should be able to play the maximum bet with each spin, and thus increase your chances of winning bigger pay outs and/or jackpots when you do win.
Also, don't be afraid to leave a 'cold' slot game. In other words, leave a slot that hasn't paid out in 10 to 12 spins. The idea that sinking money into a single slot game because it will pay out out eventually has proven untrue hundreds of billions of times. Rather spread your playing funds around by playing a variety of games. Some will be cold and others will be 'hot or loose,' i.e. they pay out more often. And last but not least always learn the rules of an online slot game before you start playing it. Good Luck.
