10 Commandments of Gambling Online

Freshman Studies

While it's pretty easy to gamble online, it's equally easy to get carried away and the quickest way to kiss your playing funds goodbye is by being to 'gung ho'. So in that vain, we've compiled a list of rules, or as we like to call them the 10 Commandments of Gambling Online, which are designed to help you play smarter, for longer and hopefully with a greater degree of success:

  1. Choose your online casinos carefully
Like you would only entrust your money to a licensed and regulated bank, you should only ever play at online casinos that are licensed and regulated, are powered by top online gambling software, offer generous bonuses, have large and constantly growing game portfolios and most importantly boast solid reputations.
  2. Set and stick to a gambling budget
Like most things in life, moderation is key and gambling online is no different. It's easy to get caught up in the moment and top up your casino account without much thought. But by setting yourself a session, daily or weekly gambling budget and sticking to it, you'll always control your gambling and not the other way around.
  3. Stick to games that offer the best odds
As fun as lots of online casino games are, many are designed to favor the casino and not you. This means they give the casino a much higher 'house edge' or to put it another way, offer you worse odds of winning. Keno is one such game. However, games like blackjack and craps offer you the best odds of winning.
  4. Learn game rules before your start playing
They say knowledge is power and that is never truer than at online casinos. With hundreds of games to choose from, it's important that you read and understand the rules of every game you intend to play before you start playing, whether it's slots, keno or craps. In the world of online gambling, ignorance will cost you money.
  5. Always read bonus terms and conditions
Casino bonuses are great because they really do increase your playing funds, the time you spend gambling online, and therefore your chances of winning. However, they all come with terms and conditions, which you would do well to read and understand before taking them so that you know how the payouts work.
  6. Be polite and pleasant at all times
Whether you're communicating with your fellow players in online casino tournaments or with the casino customer care staff, always be polite and pleasant. Online casinos are supposed to be fun and entertaining venues, and you don't want to become known as 'that guy' or girl who swears and is rude and unpleasant.
  7. Don't be afraid to leave 'cold' games
There is a myth at both land and online casinos that if you play a game, any game, for long enough that you'll eventually be paid out. Well this simply not true and that belief will help empty your gambling coffers quicker than you can say 'doh'. Give a game a few minutes and if it remains 'cold' move on to another game.
  8. Never gamble online when you are angry or frustrated
It's never a good idea to do anything when you're angry because anger can turn into recklessness which can turn into disaster. This is especially true when gambling online. If your anger or frustration is causing you to make stupid and reckless bets, then quit. Rather come back when you're calm and thinking straight.
  9. Accept that you will have good and bad days
It doesn't matter who you are, where you live, how much money you have, or whether you're a nice person or not. When it comes to gambling online you'll have good and bad days financially. And by accepting this fact you'll be able to weather the bad days much better and appreciate the good days even more.
  10. Know when to quit
If you're having a particularly lucrative session, try not to be too greedy or arrogant so that you can cash in your winnings while you're still ahead. Similarly, if you're having a particularly costly session, try to ignore your anger and pride and log off with playing funds remaining so that you can live to 'fight' another day.
