Lotto 649 Jackpot Pays Grandmother $3.2 Million
A 66 year old grandmother from Burnaby, BC has won the staggering sum of $3.2 million after hitting the jackpot on the Lotto 6/49 draw.
Anne Ip came forward to claim her prize at the offices of the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) in Vancouver this week after her numbers came up in the August 14th Lotto 6/49 draw.
Ip, normally quiet and reserved, could not contain her absolute joy in winning the lottery. "My first reaction was awe," she said. "I'm overwhelmed. It's unreal after you discover you've won this much money!"
The lucky lotto winner bought her Lotto 6/49 ticket in Lougheed Mall in Burnaby. She has only shared her good news with her immediate family and says that plans for her win include buying a new house and a new car.
BC Lottery Players Get Lucky
According to the BCLC, lottery players from the province have been extremely lucky over the past few weeks.
Three major prizes were recorded in the August 14th draw, including Anne Ip's win. The other two were 5 out of 6 correct selections on the same draw and the players, from Chilliwack and Victoria, each won around $115,000.
The nationwide Lotto 6/49 lottery game is considered one of the most popular and rewarding in Canada, with draws taking place on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
$14m Up for Grabs this Week
This weekend, the Lotto 6/49 jackpot stands at approximately $14 million, and players can purchase tickets before the big draw on Saturday.
