GeoComply Hires New General Manager
GeoComply USA has announced the recent appointment of a new General Manager, Valli Ardalan. GeoComply offers an important service to its clients, including those in Canada and the United States.
The geolocation software company helps to identify the geographical location of Internet users. This is of particular importance in cases where legal online and mobile gambling is only permissible within a certain state or location.
GeoComply's New General Manager
GeoComply has hired a new general manager who has vast experience within a number of gaming companies. Valli Ardalan was previously an executive at bwin.party poker.
He held the position of the company's online gaming division's general manager. Before Ardalan began his stint at Party Gaming, he worked for Ladbrokes, the betting giant, for three years.
In his new position at GeoComply, Arlan will be working in both the United States and Canada. As general manager, he will be looking after GeoComply's customers in Canada, and in Nevada and New Jersey in the US, where online gaming has been legalised.
After his appointment as GeoComply's general manager, Ardalan said: "The opening of the US market represents a particularly exciting opportunity for me. GeoComply's client base represents all the major players in the new landscape and I am really looking forward to working with them as we make the potential of this market a reality."
The close proximity of Canada and the United States, each with its own online gambling laws, can add additional challenges for those providing geolocation software.
Anna Sainsbury, the Chief Executive Officer at GeoComply noted: "Compliance is an extremely important part of what the geolocation technologies have to do.
"However, the player's experience is also critical and Valli will help us work even closer with operators and their platforms to make sure that, even as our geofencing technology enforces boundaries, the legitimate players are not unnecessarily impacted," she explained.
GeoComply on the US-Canadian Border
Since the Canadian-US border covers an extended area, and there is much common trade, there are some serious geolocation issues that can arise, especially where the geolocation software is pinpointing the location of those using online gaming sites.
Not only are there are large number of Canadians that are located within a 100 mile distance of the border between Canada and the US, there are many who live on one side of the border and work on the other side. While IP geolocation is used to determine where a player is located, and can usually be accurate within a distance of 10km much of the time, it is not always accurate.
This lack of accuracy puts a large number of potential players in a buffer zone that could prevent players who are legally allowed to gamble from doing so.
Since Canada allows far more legalised gambling than the US does, it also needs to keep its online gaming within its own borders. For this reason, it is important that a top geolocation company, such a GeoComply, will work toward more accurate geolocation techniques for Canada and the US.
