New York Giants at Washington Redskins NFL Preview and Odds
The New York Giants travel to play the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football this week. The Giants are 7-4 with a two-game lead over the Redskins and Dallas Cowboys. The Giants are coming off an impressive 38-10 win over the Green Bay Packers last week in New Jersey. The Redskins are coming off a big win in Dallas on Thanksgiving Day 38-31.
History
The game promises to be a great offensive battle between two of the game's high profile quarterbacks, the Giants Eli Manning and the Redskins Robert Griffin III. The Giants beat Washington 27-23 in their first meeting this season in New Jersey. Had the Redskins won the game, the two would be tied for first right now. So though the Giants have a two game advantage, the difference in the two may not be that great.
This is the 161st meeting between these two teams. The Giants hold the series lead 92-64-4. Some of the memorable meetings include the highest scoring game in NFL history in 1966 when Washington beat the Giants 72-41. The Skins kicked a field goal despite being up 69-41 at the end of the game. They claimed it was to give their kicker some practice but the Giants thought it was for Sam Huff, the middle linebacker who was traded by the Giants to the Redskins.
Another memorable Giants-Redskins moment was on Monday Night Football in November of 1985 when the Giants Lawrence Taylor sacked Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann, breaking his leg in such a gruesome manner it shocked Taylor who frantically waved the trainers onto the field. Theismann never played again.
Like the other rivalries in the NFC East, the Giants and Redskins have a fierce one. The fan bases do not like each other. The teams do not like each other. This game promises to be a hard-hitting affair.
Our Pick
5Dimes has the Giants -2.5 -135 or -160. The Redskins are +2.5 +115 or +140. Over/under is 51. This is the Giants time of the year. Look for them to make a statement on Monday night. We like the Giants -2.5 and we like the under. The Giants defense will come up big and give RG III a welcome to the big games of November, similar to what the Patriots did to Andrew Luck and the Colts a few weeks ago.
Should the Giants win this game, they will be in great shape to win another NFC East title. They will have four games left and will have at least a two game lead depending on the outcome of the Eagles-Cowboys game. Their remaining schedule has only two teams with a winning record, the Falcons and Ravens.
Should the Redskins win, they will be only one game out with four to play and will be right in the race. They also play the Ravens, but that is their only game left with a team over .500.
