The Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys will renew one of the best rivalries in football on Thanksgiving Day. These two have played in some classic games, especially on Thanksgiving Day in past years. In fact, little used backup quarterback Clint Longley is still a well-known name based on one Thanksgiving Day come from behind victory in 1974 over the Redskins. Roger Staubach, Dallas' Hall of Fame quarterback, was knocked out of the game in the middle of the third quarter with the Redskins up 16-3. Longley came in and rallied the Cowboys the rest of the way, finally hitting a 50 touchdown pass to Drew Pearson with 28 seconds left to give the Cowboys a dramatic 24-23 win. Redskins coach George Allen described it as the toughest loss of his career.

History

Dallas leads the all time series 62-40-2, but the Redskins have won both postseason meetings. In 1982 both made the playoffs and wound up facing each other in the NFC Championship Game. John Riggins ran for 140 yards and two touchdowns in the game to beat the Cowboys and send the Redskins on to the Super Bowl when Riggins had another monster game as they beat the Miami Dolphins.

The two teams met the following season on the Monday Night Football season opener. Danny White led the Cowboys to a 31-30 win, rallying them from a 23-3 hole.

In 1988, the Cowboys beat the Redskins behind Michael Irvin's three touchdown catches, knocking the Redskins out of playoff contention. IT was the last win of legendary coach Tom Landry's career. So you can see a lot of history in this rivalry. The fan bases do not like each other. The players do not like each other. This year, a Texas hero, Robert Griffin III from Baylor University will lead the Redskins. This should be a great game to sit back and watch while your turkey digests and you're waiting for the pumpkin pie (or apple pie if you prefer).

Neither team is out of the running in the NFC East. The Redskins are in more desperate need of a win as they are 4-6, two games behind the New York Giants and one behind the 5-5 Cowboys. The Cowboys have been playing good football as of late and gaining ground on the Giants since they lost a tough game to them at home three weeks ago. If the Cowboys can beat Washington, they put a lot of pressure on the Giants who will be at Green Bay on Sunday.

Our Pick

Bodog has the Redskins +3 even and the Cowboys -3 -120. Pinnacle has the Redskins +3.5 1.870 or 2.550. Dallas is -3.5 2.060 or 1.581. Over/under is 48. We are going to go with Dallas -3.5 and the over.

We cannot wait to watch Griffin vs Tony Romo. There should be some exciting plays in this game.
