Giants at Panthers NFL 2012 Preview and Odds
Week 3 of the NFL kicks off early when the New York Giants travel to Carolina on Thursday Night.
The Giants are coming off a come from behind win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week in a game they went into the fourth quarter trailing by 11 points. The Giants quarterback Eli Manning passed for 510 yards in the game to lead them to a 41-34 win. They took the ball with just under 2:00 to go with the score tied 34-34 and Manning led them to a game winning touchdown. They scored so fast they almost left the Bucs enough time to tie the game back.
The game ended on a pick of Josh Freeman by Chase Blackburn to seal the win for the Giants. The game ended with some controversy when the Bucs tried to force a fumble as the Giants were kneeling on the ball to end the game.
In Carolina, Cam Newton led the Panthers to a 35-27 win over the New Orleans Saints. Newton ran for 71 yards and threw for 253 yards in the Panthers win. His 71 rushing yards was his career high. The Panthers defense picked off two Drew Brees passes, sending the defending NFC South Champs to an 0-2 start. Teams who start 0-2 miss the playoffs nearly 90% of the time since the NFL went to 12 team playoff format.
''The vibe is changing,'' Newton said. ''Not only this team, but the whole organization. With this organization I think the fans are building as well. Today we found out so much about ourselves. Our potential is through the roof.''
The Panthers are a 2.5 point favorite and we expect them to cover the margin comfortably. They start as the favorite at 1.71 with the Giants at 2.20 odds (as at Sports Interaction).
Sportsinteraction.com has set the Total at 49.5 and we favour the Over with both quarterbacks able to find their big weapons last week.
