Highest Lottery Won in Quebec
The latest lottery win has eclipsed the record sum ever won in Quebec, making one 53 year old man very, very happy.
53 year old mechanic, Bernard Gernier, became the largest Quebec lottery winner when he bagged a staggering $37 million in the latest Lotto Max draw.
Grenier, a father of three, bought the winning ticket at a grocery store in Montreal and claimed his win at a news conference in the city on Thursday.
The biggest win recorded in Quebec prior to this win was a Lotto 6/49 jackpot won in 2009 for $32.9 million.
Grenier had a quirky habit of telling his work colleagues each Friday before the weekend that if he won the lottery, they shouldn't expect him back on Monday.
Now it seems that the mechanic can finally hang up his overalls and enjoy his newfound fortune.
"There aren't a lot of people who believe me when I tell them," said Grenier in a news conference on Thursday, referring to the news of his win. "Hopefully, they'll believe me now!"
Gernier has plans to buy a new house with part of his winnings, and it has been confirmed that he has already purchased a new car.
He said that he never chooses the same numbers and always allows the computer to decide for him.
Grenier was super cool about his win and said: "It didn't really affect me much, it was my wife whose heart was racing. It's not unnerving to me. It's just money."
This is the second huge Lotto Max win in a fortnight.
Last week, a group in the Saguenay won $25 million in a Lotto Max draw.
