Even though compared to the biggest lottery jackpots worth tens and even hundreds of millions of dollars, $113,708 is still a lot of money which could be used for many things like paying off debts, education, housing, travel and so on.

$113,708.50 is the amount of a second prize jackpot that was won on June 6, 2009 from a LOTTO 6/49 draw, but until now has remained unclaimed. And if it remains unclaimed for a full calendar year from the draw date, it will be forfeited.

This means that someone in Eastern Ontario either threw away or lost the winning ticket, or are unaware that they are sitting on a small fortune. The winning numbers of the LOTTO 6/49 ticket in question were 11, 12, 18, 21, 30, 37 and bonus 1.

According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), if a lottery ticket remains unclaimed, it is forfeited. But while this may be sad news for the ticket owner, it is good news for Canada, because the money is rerouted for good causes.

The OLG is appealing for the owner of the LOTTO 6/49 ticket to complete the back of the ticket, sign it and contact the OLG Prize Centre at 20 Dundas Street West in Toronto before 5pm on Friday, June 4, 2010. Thereafter, the ticket will be void.

But while some Canadian lottery players will double check the numbers of any old LOTTO 6/49 tickets lying around, most lottery fans have bigger fish to fry, namely the current LOTTO MAX jackpot of approximately $40-million this Friday.

Given the sheer size of the LOTTO MAX jackpot, there will no doubt be an enormous run on lottery outlets across Canada as hundreds of thousands of lottery players put themselves in line to become the country's newest millionaire - 40 times over.
