I have many friends across Canada that are as into online gambling as I am, including a few who live in New Brunswick. And boy will they be as pleased as punch to hear that the province is now also considering legalizing the popular internet activity, along the same lines as British Columbia and Quebec before it.
According to reports, the New Brunswick government is closely watching how Quebec's foray into legalized online gambling pans out before it decides to follow suit. And although nothing has been set in stone, at least government representatives have stated an interest in developing a New Brunswick online gambling market.
For instance, communications director for the New Brunswick Department of Finance, Marc Belliveau, was recently quoted in a leading Canadian daily newspaper that New Brunswick - like all of Canada's provinces - has recognized how rapidly online gambling is growing in popularity across Canada.
The fact is that legal or not, more and more Canadians are choosing to gamble online. So instead of forcing players 'underground', i.e. to gamble at offshore online gambling sites, why not instead give them the chance to gamble at online casinos and other gambling sites that are licensed, regulated and monitored by the respective provinces?
Not only will this offer Canadian online gambling fans greater safety, protection and peace of mind, but it will allow the respective provinces to top up their government coffers with taxes levied on online gambling revenues. To me, a humble online gambling fan, this sounds like a win win situation. I only hope New Brunswick sees it the same way.
